The La Trobe Specialist Family Violence Court creates trauma-informed environments that prioritise safety, dignity, and wellbeing for affected family members navigating justice processes. Through seamless integration with existing building infrastructure, we developed discreet entry points ensuring complete privacy whilst creating calm, secure interiors that reduce stress and trauma. Specialised spaces, including safe waiting areas, parent rooms, and remote witness rooms connected to secure support offices, demonstrate how evidence-based design transforms justice delivery, balancing functional court requirements with genuine care for vulnerable users during critical moments.
Trauma-Informed Environmental Design
Soft, natural palettes and intuitive layouts reduce stress and trauma for vulnerable court users. Every design element serves healing rather than intimidation, proving that justice environments can provide protection and equity whilst maintaining dignity for families experiencing violence.
