The remote witness rooms at the Garragarrak Witness and Victim Support Centre revolutionise courtroom operations by creating trauma-informed environments that empower witnesses to provide their best evidence. These spaces demonstrate how thoughtful design transforms justice delivery—from electronically adjustable tables accommodating court dogs to carefully selected wall colours optimising witness appearance on camera. The project proves that evidence-based design principles can enhance both functionality and dignity within justice settings.
Trauma-Informed Functionality
Every design element serves witness comfort and empowerment. Soothing imagery provides calm focus points, whilst soft green rear walls optimise lighting and skin tone presentation on camera, ensuring witnesses appear at their best during testimonies.
"These rooms have been thoughtfully designed to enhance functionality and user experience, accommodating up to three people, including the presence of a court dog."
